A self-paced, pre-recorded course to guide you from stickman to real person so that you can sketch people confidently and have a new skill for life.

Perfect for you if you've always wanted to draw but something inside you says you can't. You can!

Do you relate to this?

  • You try to sketch people but they never look right.
  • Someone once told you you'd never be any good at art.
  • You don’t know where to start, people keep moving before you finish, you wish you could sketch them quickly and every sketch attempt ends up in the bin.
  • You see other people sketching with ease, turning a few lines into a person, and you wish you could do that.
  • Or maybe you know how to draw but it's too tight and you want to know how to loosen up.

Fear not, it's within your reach

Don't listen to the naysayers - drawing is a teachable skill!

How to Sketch People will give you the tools and techniques for sketching confidence. It will help you to reconnect with your creativity (if you've lost touch with it) and open up the world of sketching joy.

As with any new skill, it can require a lot of thought at first but, with practice, YOU WILL GET IT.

Everyone on the course gets access to my private Facebook Group, Sketching People, connecting you with others on the same path.

If I had a penny....

...every time someone said to me, "I wish I could draw", I'd have about £10.82 now.

I'm Sonya Vine, an artist from Haslemere in the UK and runner up of Surrey Artist of the Year 2023. I love painting atmospheric scenes full of nostalgia and light, often with faraway figures. This is contrary to my sketchbooks which are jam-packed full of people in close up.

I've been sketching people for over three decades and I just love it. While it came naturally to me, I could also see that, with a shift of thinking and seeing, it was something that people could learn so I thought it was time I broke it down into simple sections and explained how to do it.

Let me show you how.

Imagine...

  • Sitting in your favourite cafe with a coffee and sketchbook, sketching someone over the other side of the room lost in a book while you get lost in the scribbles. (Don't let your coffee get cold).

  • At home with a precious 20 minutes, and sketching your child watching telly on the sofa (you know they won't move).

  • A sunny day on holiday, an empty bench calling you, time to whip out your sketchbook and capture some memories.

  • On a train journey, instead of staring out of the window, why not turn it into a creative time and sketch the commuters. They won't notice, they haven't found this course yet so they're just staring out of the window.

FAQs

Do I have to do this in a certain time? No you're completely free to take as little or as long as you want.

Can I do this in pen? Yes absolutely. Some shading techniques are a little different with pencils and pens and I cover that.

What materials do I need? Any paper and any pencil will do. A sketchbook is brilliant to have and softer pencils (eg B or 2B) are great for shading but it's not a problem if you don't have them. Just get a pencil or pen from the kitchen drawer!
