I'm Sonya Vine, an artist from Haslemere in the UK and runner up of Surrey Artist of the Year 2023. I love painting atmospheric scenes full of nostalgia and light, often with faraway figures. This is contrary to my sketchbooks which are jam-packed full of people in close up.
I've been sketching people for over three decades and I just love it. While it came naturally to me, I could also see that, with a shift of thinking and seeing, it was something that people could learn so I thought it was time I broke it down into simple sections and explained how to do it.

- Sitting in your favourite cafe with a coffee and sketchbook, sketching someone over the other side of the room lost in a book while you get lost in the scribbles. (Don't let your coffee get cold).
- At home with a precious 20 minutes, and sketching your child watching telly on the sofa (you know they won't move).
- A sunny day on holiday, an empty bench calling you, time to whip out your sketchbook and capture some memories.
- On a train journey, instead of staring out of the window, why not turn it into a creative time and sketch the commuters. They won't notice, they haven't found this course yet so they're just staring out of the window.

FAQs
Do I have to do this in a certain time? No you're completely free to take as little or as long as you want.
Can I do this in pen? Yes absolutely. Some shading techniques are a little different with pencils and pens and I cover that.
What materials do I need? Any paper and any pencil will do. A sketchbook is brilliant to have and softer pencils (eg B or 2B) are great for shading but it's not a problem if you don't have them. Just get a pencil or pen from the kitchen drawer!
If I have a question during the course, can I ask you? Yes you can contact me through my Facebook Group 'Sketching People' or drop me an email [email protected].
How long do I have access for? You’ll have access for the lifetime of the course, for as long as I continue to run How to Sketch People.
If I don't like the course can I get a refund? In the unlikely event that you don't get anything from the course, just drop me an email within 7 days and I'll give you a full refund. No strings attached.
